FROM DUST TO DUST / 7 of 13

Reaching the end of the Last Journey, facing South, towards the threshold wall, the burial tower, and the mountain beyond, one arrives at the Promession House. This is a return to the traditional house and Madang spatial relationship.

It is here that the body of the deceased is taken to be promated. Frozen in liquid nitrogen, then broken down in the same manner as the product of cremation, but without the noxious fumes or roar of the furnace. Some may choose to witness to actual process of promession, to see the machines, and people controlling the conversion from body into dust.

REFINING THE HORIZON
The Promession House has its own threshold between promession chamber and the outside. While at this height the visual connection to the city is easily maintained, the trauma of the event is mediated by securing the horizons of sky and ground with roof and turf. This allows focus on the immediate yet escape into the horizontal.

PROGRAMATIC ISOMETRIC / Bear Witness / Commital
1 Promession House (2 Chambers), 2 Promession House Madang, 3 Workshop, 4 Machine Room, 5 Path of Respite - Into the Day to Day, 6 Path of the Last Journey
The final rites occur within the Promession structure but participation in the event stretches out into the Madang, out and away towards the northern stair tower.

The Madang leads eventually to a meandering path to the retreival of Promains at the end of the Promession process. In the meantime this path offers escape for those who need it, away into the day to day, or simply respite behind columns or pillars.
